The international conference “Maritime Cyprus” was held in Limassol between 24 and 26 September 2007. The Conference attracted distinguished speakers and approximately 800 shipping executives from 35 countries around the globe. This was the tenth time since 1989, that the Conference was organised in Cyprus. This year’s Conference was organised by the Ministry of Communications and Works, the Department of Merchant Shipping, the Cyprus Shipping Council and the Cyprus Union of Shipowners.

The Conference was entitled “Stay Tuned…Shipping New Image”, and it was held in the purpose built Evagoras Lanitis Centre, in Limassol. The Conference focused on the Image of Shipping, aiming at analysing issues such as the Recruiting, Training and Retaining of Seafarers as well as Shipowners’ Mission and Vision. Presentations were given by a number of internationally recognised speakers.

The Ceremony was officially opened by the Minister of Communications and Works, Mrs. Maria Malachtou-Pamballi.  During the Opening Ceremony, speeches were also given by distinguished guests, such as the Secretary General of the IMO, Adm. Efthymios Mitropoulos and the Vice President of the European Commission and Transport Commissioner, Mr. Jacques Barrot, showing the great importance attached to the Conference, as well as to Cyprus Shipping.
